SPRING FRIENDSHIP CUP
Sunday, June 18th
Beach Chalet Athletic Fields, San Francisco
The Friendship Cup Parents Soccer Tournament began as a fundraiser that gave parents with kids attending the same schools a chance to demonstrate school pride in the context of friendly competition and sportsmanship. It has since evolved into a tournament for any and all parents who enjoy the game, want to support the cause, and respect the referees. Some teams form by school and others are a combination. As long as everyone is a parent, they’re welcome to play and be a kid for the day!
While the parents take to the field, the kids will be on the sideline supporting and cheering for their parents. Kids who have experience as referees or who participate in a training by America SCORES, officiate the games- RESPECT THE REFS.
This event is a very family friendly tournament. Weather permitting, there will be kids activities, a BBQ lunch included, and space to play. Fun provided by America SCORES, but parents are responsible for their kids supervision.
Inline with the mission of the event, the Friendship Cup has two trophies: one for the team that wins the championship game and one for the team that raises the most money and makes the most impact for the youth of the America SCORES program.
Join the Fun!
Friendship Cup Basics:
– Games: 8 v 8 soccer – seven field players and one goalkeeper.
– Each team will play at least four 30-minute games.
– Requirements: You must be a parent to play
– Registration fee: Sliding scale $85-$150 per player
This event is a fun, family-friendly event to promote sportsmanship, friendly competition, and benefit a good cause. It is a chance to “flip” the usual game-day dynamic and have the parents on the field and kids on the sideline as refs.
What is America SCORES?
We are an innovative non-profit that builds community and strengthens youth through soccer, poetry, and service. We deliver daily programs to more than 50 low-income school communities across the Bay Area.
What do the Funds Support?
Funds raised will help to provide six-day-a-week programs for nearly 1000 youth and cover stipends for soccer and writing coaches. Funds will also support our Field of Dreams initiative to transform more than 100,000 square feet of asphalt playgrounds into turf sports fields.
How does the Friendship Cup soccer tournament work?
Three game minimum per team. 30 minute games. Game is 8 vs. 8 including a goalkeeper. No slide tackles. No arguing any calls. Kids will serve as the referees.
