In Our Words: SCORES Poetry

Articulate, Powerful, Inspirational…  We could describe our Poet-Athletes’ poetry in a number of ways, but it helps to see for yourself. Check out a sampling of their rhymes:

What SCORES Means to Me
SCORES means to me that I could have fun
SCORES means to me that I could learn to write better
SCORES means to me that I could learn to run faster
SCORES means to me that I could learn to play soccer
SCORES means to me that I could be happy.

COMMUNITYJohn W. Raper Poet-Athletes
Community is almost like a building.
People coming together, sticking like glue.
Almost like a family, all colors and religions growing.
Becoming stronger, making it harder to bring down.
Brick by brick the community is being built.
Becoming a neighborhood, a unit.
Working for one thing.
Trying to make the community safer for everyone.
Together a person makes a home for themselves and others.
COMMUNITY!

Poetry
Poetry can be a song, a story, safe, simple, and sincere
It can be happy, honest, hopeful or hilarious
It can be a melody, a movement, a mirror or a mood
Poetry can be many things to many people
Like me, and you
It can fill us, it can empty us
What can’t it do?
I don’t know
Do you?

One Day
One day I will be walking
Walking around this great big world
And with little steps
Anything is possible
One day I will be running
Running in a great big marathon
And with little steps
And lots of determination
Anyone can win
The longest marathon ever
One day I will do everything
I want to do
But for now
It is just a wonderful
Magical
Dream of mine
