Green/Verde

Green is the grass
Verde es el zacate

Green are the plants
Verde son las plantas

When you go outside
you see green all around
Cuando vas para afuera
ves mucho verde

Green are the frogs
Verde son las ranas

Lean on me when you’re afraid
And I’ll be your favorite blanket.

Lean on me when you have scored
And I will be your trophy.

Lean on my when your in danger
And I will be your super hero.

Lean on me when you are weak
And I will be your power boost.

The 2011 Poetry Slam was held November 8th at Abraham Lincoln High School.
Our special guest was local slam poet and actor, Jose Guerrero, who grew up in in the same neighborhood as many of our SCORES participants and currently attends Denver University.  What a hit!  Everyone was energized and entertained and we can’t wait to see him again!

Performances highlighted teamwork, creativity and courage from all participating SCORES poet-athletes. The crowd was estimated to be 500 SCORES poets, friends and family members in attendance. We appreciate all our families and supporters joining us.  We’ll do it again in November 2012!

In April 2011, Adrianna (Cowell Elementary) and Brayan (Eagleton Elementary) earned trips to New York City for the America SCORES National Poetry SLAM! and performed on stage at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem.

My Community

Through my glasses I could see the birds flying to the trees, I can also see my friends sitting on the ground and laughing all together. While sitting on the ground I can feel the grass making my hand itch a lot. I can hear the wind while also hearing the cars passing through the street, I can hear baby birds crying for their mother. I can smell the fresh grass and blowing wind when I am having fun outside with all of my friends.
