America SCORES Denver is always in need of volunteers who are looking to combine their passion for soccer and/or poetry with helping youth. We need volunteers to help with a variety of tasks from reffing soccer games to helping at special events.

* Referees should have basic soccer experience but do not have to be licensed. Games are typically played on Fridays between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.  Training and support is provided.

* Photographers are needed for special events.  Please have your own camera(s) and be willing to share your photos on our Picasa site as well as give permission for our use in other media.

* Assistant writing and/or soccer coaches are needed to help prepare for special events and to allow coaches individual time with our poet-athletes.  Program hours vary by school dismissal times (2:45 to 3:45 p.m.) and there are opportunities daily for 90 minute sessions.

* Technical support is needed in our Denver office!  Do you have abilities to make donated equipment work or network our printers with our varied computers?  Please contact us to help.

Now Hiring:  Part-time Coaches

We currently have several after-school openings for the fall 2013 season for writing and soccer “coaches”.  Prior writing or soccer experience is not required but helpful.  Training is provided.

Duties include: Teach and promote teamwork, leadership, and commitment to students and parents; Use curriculum to plan and conduct sessions twice (writing) or three times (soccer) per week; Lead team of 16 boys or 16 girls for full season; Record attendance, distribute snacks, and assist with maintaining seasonal records; Complete and administer all program evaluation measures; Communicate regularly with SCORES Corps and school staff; Attend special events such as Fall Frenzy or Jamboree, Poetry Slam or SHOUT Day of Action.

Hours:  Work hours vary by schools’ dismissal times and schools’ schedules, but are generally 3 to 4:30 or 3:45 to 5:15 two days per week for writing coaches and three days per week for soccer coaches.

Compensation:  New coaches will earn $20 per session plus paid training, $50 for special events, $50 for pre/post testing, correspondence, perfect attendance, etc., with the opportunity to earn about $1000 per 10 week season.

As a Coach Across America member, you will be part of a dedicated community of youth development professionals at host organizations all across the country that provide programming for at-risk youth, and your work will directly address some of the most pressing needs of young people today: childhood obesity, academic failure, and anti-social behavior.

The expectations for CAA coaches are high and the work is intense. Coach Across America is a highly selective program; the candidates we select must be ready to give their all throughout their year of service and meet all the requirements of the CAA experience.
