Founding Executive Director, Serena brings energy and experience to America SCORES St. Louis. Serena earned a B.A. in English from Xavier University in Louisiana and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In addition to fundraising and community development experience, she is accomplished in program development, coalition building, community engagement, and project management. “I have seen first-hand how eager young children are for new challenges and opportunities to test themselves. America SCORES St. Louis provides them with an outlet for creative expression, and a way to use their unlimited physical energy on the soccer field.”
Associate Director, Teresa brings 10 years of youth development experience to America SCORES St. Louis. She earned her Master of Social Work from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis, and has designed, managed, and obtained funding to support a variety of quality youth development programs in St. Louis. Teresa never ceases to be humbled by dedicated educators who inspire young people, and the young people who inspire them back. “To quote something a SCORES coach and educator told me once: We should have high expectations of everyone who has high expectations of kids. I am honored to connect with SCORES friends and partners in supporting this important work, to show our young people we as a community can exceed their expectations, and then cheer them on as they exceed ours.”
Education Director, Kathleen comes to America SCORES St. Louis with a rich history of youth development in the St. Louis Metro community in organizations such as Girls Club, Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts and The Department of Educations Twenty First Century Program. A graduate of Northwest High School, she has benefited from many enriching cultural and college prep programs introduced by caring teachers of the St. Louis Public Schools. Kathleen attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau and received a Bachelors Degree in Communication. Currently she is working on a Masters Degree at Webster University in St. Louis. When not working, she volunteers with ESL American School in Clayton School District and is an avid outdoorswoman.”I am energized by the combination of writing and athleticism that SCORES offers to students. Coming from a family of poets and being an All-American Track Athlete myself, I bring this passion and insight to our students each year.”
Program Coordinator, Bill earned his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and International Studies from Saint Louis University. He taught for two years in underserved schools, and a realization of the health needs that exist in these populations led him on a search that ended with America SCORES. Bill comes to the program with a passion for both health and education, and he has found an ideal combination of the two in this program. ”As a volunteer teacher at low-income schools, I’ve developed a strong understanding of both education and service-learning, and a passion for the health of students. I come to SCORES looking to make significant gains in the St. Louis region in each of those areas.”
