Nohemy Salamon

Nohemy, 17, was born in Maryland but grew up in DC. When she moved to DC she says she was “the new girl” and was just looking for ways to fit in, so she decided to join the soccer team at school which was a “big thing for everybody.” Little did she know how important the game would be to her over the years. Nohemy says it’s never been easy for her to speak to other people about the things she goes through, but when it’s just her and the ball, that’s all she needs. She says she doesn’t play for the competition, she plays soccer for the feeling — and she says she knows the ball will never judge her.

What do you enjoy most about playing soccer?
The connection it creates between my mind and body.

Besides soccer, what is something you are interested in?
I enjoy making money of course, and finding and thinking of ways to help people in any way that I can. Oh, and of course, sightseeing and traveling.

What are you most looking forward to about participating in the 2018 Street Child World Cup in Russia?
I’m looking forward to traveling to a new country, getting to know new cultures and create an even deeper connection with my teammates. And of course, improving my game by the day.
